Jethro's mentioned in America's Best BBQ

Here's what the authors had to say about us.

"We've lived almost our whole lives in barbeque, traveling the country to participate in and judge contests, visiting restaurants in far-off places, writing books and articles, and talking to all kinds of people about barbeque.  Consequently, it was a real challenge to single out our top 100 places.  The following places are places we like to go, and we enjoy them, but for some reason or another they didn't make the list of 100.  Maybe they had an off day when we visited, or maybe we couldn't agree on them, but all have their fans, and it would be remiss of us not to mention them."

"JETHROS BBQ
3100 Forrest Ave.
Des Moines, IA 50311
Ardie's college roommate, The Rev. Ron Osborne, told us about this place, and we're glad he did!  Try the baby back ribs with the Carolina sauce and the smoked chicken with Alabama white sauce.  If you guessed from the name that the joint and menu are built on a hillbilly theme, you guessed right."

Jethro's is happy to be recognized by Cityview readers for our BBQ which we take great pride in preparing. Our competition quality, 100 percent wood-smoked meats include chicken, pork shoulders, beef briskets, home made sausages and of course ribs are a passion for us and we're happy that our fellow Des Moines residents enjoy as much as we do. In addition to the Best BBQ award, we also received runner up accolades for best chicken wings as well as best new restaurant and best sports bar.

Thanks Des Moines

Jethro's gets four star review from the Datebook Diner - November 20, 2008

I 've often thought that we need a few more funky places in this town - quirky, casual spots that are 100 percent themselves.

Chat Noir and Coral Reef café were, in their heyday, such venues; Continental, when at the top of its game, definitely exudes an offbeat charm. Ritual Café possesses its share of funk, and Big Tomato Pizza, of course, endures as the King of Funk.

In the less successful cases, however, funky descends into filthy, laid-back becomes loosey-goosey, offbeat is simply a code word for unprofessional - and diners start scrambling to Jordan Creek for their casual bites.

How wonderful, then, to witness Jethro's BBQ maintain both high standards and an offbeat groove since it opened last spring.
